The two men went on to molest several children after a local authority failed to properly investigate claims of indecency on one victim, it was claimed.

Homosexual partners Ian Wathey, 40, and Craig Faunch, 32, allegedly videoed and performed sex acts on troubled boys put into their care by Wakefield council in West Yorkshire.

They had been approved by social services in July 2003, but within a month abused the position of trust for their own sexual gratification, a jury heard.

Prosecuting, Jeremy Richardson QC told the jury at Leeds crown court that the first boys to fall victim were eight-year-old twins, placed with the men when their mum had problems coping. Faunch photographed and videoed them urinating in the toilet at their home in Pontefract, West Yorks. But the mum raised the alarm after the boys showed her photos that Faunch had taken.

And in harrowing video evidence, an autistic boy of 14, but with a mental age of seven, said Wathey made him watch gay porn while he touched himself.

On about nine other occasions Wathey allegedly subjected him to a sex act as he lay in bed. He said the men "hurt" him, adding: "I want them to go to prison."
